Reading Reflection No. 2

Assignment 21A - Reading Reflection No. 2

The Art of Social Media by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick.

1)    What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The general theme of this book was how to “rock” on social media. It shows people how to be confident and professional on social media and that there are many ways to do it. This book runs through how to improve your profile, make perfect posts, keep content flowing, respond to people, how to improve followers, and more.

2)    How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
This book helps enhance and connect with what I am learning in ENT 3003, as it shows me how to enhance my networking skills and reach out to my target market through social media. It also shows me how to keep my market interested and following what I am doing.

3)    If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
If I had to design an exercise for this class, it would be to make a Facebook page for your product or service and start trying to reach your target market. This would give people a real life chance at reaching others about their idea. Another way to incorporate this book would be something like a LinkedIn page, where you could actually reach out to other businesses.

4)    What was your biggest surprise or ‘aha’ moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
My biggest moment of surprise when reading this book was how many social media platforms there are. This book lists many different social media sites and how they work and can be used to help your professional life. An ‘aha’ moment with this was when the book said that you can use other applications to help with your social media too, such as excel, to plan the content you are going to put on your social media. I did not realize how many social media sites there were or how you could use them to benefit your professional life.

  1. Social Media managing is a real job that involves deliberate strategy. I implement a few of those "other applications" that help with managing your social medias in my actual current business. Your exercise would definitely be a nice way to test the skills that can be learned from this book. Did you notice any sort of social media that had obvious advantage to it thus producing a better ROI from using it?

  2. I really like your idea of the Facebook page as an exercise. When I initially started this class I didn't really think that this would be so specific into one venture but it really does feel like a cookie cutter mold for the thought processes and steps it takes to be the entrepreneur we all envision. I think that creating a Facebook page or some other form of social media in which our ecosystem is much larger than just our blog groups would be very beneficial. In the chance that a students idea explodes, the class would have been the best thing to ever happen to that student.
