Solving the Problem

Assignment 8A - Solving the Problem

My solution to the unmet customer need of waiting for checks in restaurants is an application for your phone. My opportunity started with “Students at the University of Florida get frustrated at wait times in restaurants because of busy class schedules.” However, after interviewing students, I have defined it as more “busy schedules” in general, rather than just specifically about classes.

This application could be downloaded on students’ phones and the restaurant would be connected to this app. Students could then have credit card details on the app and pay for their meal when they have finished eating so as to cut down the time waiting for the server to bring the check and then waiting for payment. The app could work by you being given an order number for the specific restaurant, and you could log on, find your meal and pay whenever you were ready. This would have to be sold to businesses but also to students, as both would be needed to function. Therefore, customers with this unmet need, would have this option to pay. This would also reduce stress on servers and they could focus on attending to customers while ordering and eating.

  1. Hello Georgia!
This idea sounds like it would very much increase the efficiency of our daily lives as students. It really would help the workers' stress levels as things would be more organized and they wouldn't have as many people yelling at them because they are upset about the wait time for their orders. I like the way you capitalize on the way it would be sold to businesses and students.
    Great idea!

  2. Excellent solution I believe. There are already systems like this in place (like Apple-bees or maybe it's Chilis) that have a little machine already on the table in which you can swipe your card to pay after you are done eating. But your idea works better because it saves the restaurants from having to own the equipment. I think this is an excellent idea and could be offered to restaurants in a multitude of way (I see Venmo doing this very soon), either sell it to the restaurants like you said, or take a very minimal processing fee of the payments made and give the software for free to the restaurants.

  3. Hi Georgia,
I think this is an awesome idea. I actually went to a Texas Roadhouse the other day and on the bill that the server gave me, there was a link for a website and a unique code for the bill. I almost used it to pay so I wouldn't have to wait for her to bring my card back but she came back before I had the chance to type it into my phone. Needless to say, I'd use an app like that to avoid waiting.
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Hey Georgia, I believe that you have come up with a very strong solution to an issue that most of us have to deal with. It can help the business and the student consumers efficiently complete transactions while limiting all this wait time that neither can afford to have. I would love to see something like this launch so we can indeed go on with our busy schedules without all that unnecessary stress.
